Sikkim Manipal University
Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological
Sciences has been established by an Act of the Sikkim State
Legislature in 1995. The university has been set up as a result of an
alliance between the Manipal Pai Foundation and the Sikkim Government
and is the first such tie-up between a government and a private
organization. The university courses are recognized by all the
accreditation agencies like University Grants
Commission.
The University addresses the felt need for a university in the region
and further affiliates distance education centers to provide quality
technical education.
The University conducts Distance Education programs in Information
Technology, Management and Allied Health Sciences through their
University and Study centers located nationwide. All the University
Centers are connected to the University thru a Satellite Connection (VSAT)
to provide access to the lectures by eminent university staff.
Semester system is followed and the university conducts the
examinations and award degrees and certificates upon clearing all the
semesters.
